Do you tend to virtue
Courageous generous just
Unfamiliar words today
Given virtual notoriety
You must be neither
A coward nor a fool
Cowards always flee
Fools forever leap in
Courage stands
Between the two
You will not be greedy
Gifts are freely given
With no expectation
You will not be devious
Right is done
No gain in mind
Like a work of art
Virtue's beauty
Is unto itself
Nothing added
Nothing taken away
Just you in thoughtful action
Building Aristotle's good life

Sunset’s brief stillness
Wind and birds quiet
Evening sets in
Cools the sunny day’s
Breezy warmth
Venus and Jupiter
In the western sky
Mars rosy opposition
Orion crosses the night
Spring’s first day ends

In the easy afternoon light
Accompanied by tumbling waves
Left behind from a beach walk
She crosses the lawn
Gathers wind blown plumerias
Among the lengthening shadows
She climbs the porch stairs
Enveloped in the sweet smell
He turns and smiles
At the shared memory

No ambient light
Disturbs the darkness
The full moon edges to new
Venus and Jupiter light
A late evening horizon
Mars rosy bright in the east
The big dipper turns
Orion rises
Your hands reach up
To touch the stars

On the wooden table's raised grain
Trade winds blow journal pages
One after the other
In search of poems
Among scribbled papers
Filled with crossed out words
Soon replaced by phrases
On their way to poetry
