Love’s Philosophy

Was teleology expressed in our love?
Did we have an aim in mind or did it just
Happen to me and to you for reasons
Beyond understanding, beyond analytic
Frameworks, mathematics, metaphysics,
Something akin to a leap of faith, as if
Paul had loved a beautiful woman
Rather than the beatific Son of God.
The inchoate options share common
Roots with nothing to do with this
Or that hypothesis, experiment
Mutual marriage proposals verified
On the Oregon coast, a touch stone
For us now, in any season, unwilling
To be far from the ocean for long.
