for scores, hidden
in piles of tiles
we search
our minds for all
the combinations
that we know,
wonder at those
we've never even seen
surrounded by word-lovers,

Let's see ...
Every player gets a bag of Scrabble tiles and makes as many haiku as they can? (hmm, no)
Or something like a slam, but not so performance-oriented? (what form could that take?)
At the Scrabble tournament I liked the feeling of all those people simultaneously trying to think of something on the spot, even if it was just a word that was spelled right and fit on the board.
Thinking of code sprints ... where a bunch of people sit around with their laptops spewing out code. Maybe a poetry sprint? Invite all the poets you know to gather in one room and write poetry for two hours, followed by a one-hour open mic with an audience -- where the rule is, you don't have to read, but if you do read, it has to be something you wrote in the last two hours?
Kind of like a micro version of the weekend-play-festival idea. I'm liking this!

"poetry sprint"
I searched Google for the term, just to see if anyone else has done this.
http://www.gloucesterwritersfestival.com/poetry-sprint.html was the only thing I found that was actually a legitimate poetry event and not some by-chance combination of the words "poetry" and "sprint" (ah the shortcomings of Google)
First Annual Bellingham Poetry Sprint, anyone? ... it sure would bring the poets out of the woodwork. :)
